Carl Pei, co-founder of OnePlus, announced on Twitter that Face Unlock will finally be available in OnePlus 5 in an upcoming update.
While it has just received his update on OxygenOS 5.0 Android Oreo, OnePlus 5 will soon be receiving Face Unlock, one of the new features of OnePlus 5T.
Due to popular demand, Face Unlock is coming for the OnePlus 5. Thanks for the feedback, and merry Christmas! 🎅🎄🎁

The information just confirmed by Carl Pei on Twitter was an addition requested by OnePlus 5 users from his announcement to his successor, OnePlus 5T. It allows you to quickly unlock your smartphone with face recognition technology. Although advertised as less secure than the iPhone X (though it’s usually faster), it’s an interesting alternative to unlocking the fingerprint sensor.
OnePlus 5 users will probably get it in the next few weeks, porting is relatively simple for the OnePlus team, since the last two smartphones of the brand have the same camera in front: a Sony IMX 371 16 megapixel sensor in f / 2.0 diaphragm.
